Helicopter-borne emergency medicine training in Brasil

Helicopter-borne emergency

medicine training in Brasil

November 28 to December 1, 2017

In line with the development of medical cooperation between France and Brazil and thanks to the support of the Airbus Helicopters Foundation, the Medical Academy Foundation (FAM) will organize for the second time in Rio de Janeiro a training course in helicopter emergency medicine from 28 November to 1 December 2017.

With the support of its local correspondent, Dr. Luis Plotkowski, and in cooperation with Dr. Henri Julien, Academician and President of the SFMC (French Society of Disaster Medicine), the AFM will send six French experts for the occasion to train doctors and nurses from Rio de Janeiro and Sao Paulo.

This training is likely to reinforce and perpetuate the use of helicopters in Brazil as a means of providing relief to the population, particularly during humanitarian or emergency crises.

The theoretical part of the training was carried out by a European teaching staff, with the support of Brazilian practitioners, who transposed their presentations to Brazilian conditions.

The practical part of the training took place with six medicalized helicopters and their crews at the service of the students for rescue exercises and demonstrations.

This action is in line with the FAM’s objective: promoting the improvement of public health in the world while enhancing the value of French medicine; it should be noted that French emergency medicine is particularly popular abroadthe world.

TRAINING IN HELICOPTER-BORNE EMERGENCY MEDICINE IN JAKARTA

It is with great pride that the FAM has opened a new page in French medical cooperation by going to Indonesia for the first time to train in helicopter emergency medicine.

Through this training, nearly 100 emergency doctors were trained from 03 to 05 December 2019 in the use of emergency helicopters in the event of road accidents, mountains, diving and natural disasters.

We were impressed by the quality of the questions that were asked by experienced Indonesian doctors raising the level of this training. We received a wonderful welcome from the UPN “Veteran” Jakarta Medical School and its team. Thank you to the Rector of the Faculty Prof. Erna Hernawati.
We hope to be able to organize a public health exchange forum in Indonesia in the coming years.

The FAM would like to thank the following people for attending this training:

Stéphane Dovert (Cultural Advisor and Director of the French Institute of Indonesia), Eric Peuch (Comptroller General (SP) – International Technical Expert and Regional Civil Security Advisor in Singapore for Southeast Asia), Prof. Guritno (former Minister of Health, correspondent of our Academy), Dr. Budi Sylvana (Head of Health Crisis Center) and Mr. Bimo Wijayanto (Senior Advisor from Presidential Staff Office in Health and Social).

TRAINING FOR MEDICAL EMERGENCIES BY HELICOPTER IN INDIA

Medical cooperation between the FAM and India is important for many years. It begins in 2015 with a FAMx forum on the prevention and treatment of cardiovascular diseases and new developments in cancer management. Followed in 2016 by the signature of a memorandum of understanding on cooperation in infectious diseases and cardiology with the aim of developing joint research projects and patient care, thena second FAMx forum on the management of traumatic emergencies, cardiology and infectious diseases.

It is in this rich historical context that it was decided to continue this cooperation by organizing training in emergency and disaster medicine in New Delhi, in partnership with AAIIMS India.

Thanks to our volunteer doctors, 40 emergency medicine specialists were trained on November 26, 27 & 28, 2019.

The FAM would like to thank in particular the following people for attending this training:

Adèle Martial, Prof. Adèle Martial-Gros (Deputy Counselor – Head for Higher Education, Science and Technology Cooperation), Sanjeev Bhoi (Advisor to the Minister of Health), Randeep Guleria (Director of AIIMS), Sinha Sanjeev (Director of International Relations), Pr Praveen Aggarwal (Praveen Aggarwal Professor & Head of Emergency Medicine AIIMS), Dr Sanjeev Bhoi (Department of Emergency Medicine AIIMS), Dr Prakash Ranjan Mishra (Department of Emergency Medicine AIMMS).

TRAINING FOR MEDICAL EMERGENCIES BY HELICOPTER IN CHINA

From November 5 to 7, 2019, our team of FAM volunteer doctors trained in helicopter emergency medicine in Beijing, for the 4th time in China.

In total, 97 trainees from 4 emergency centres, 7 hospitals, 14 general aviation companies and 3 rescue companies, as well as the China Air Medical Rescue Alliance, were trained.

Since 2016, FAM HEMS Training in China has become a “brand”which is gaining in notoriety. HEMS’ development in China has also grown rapidly in recent years. As proof of the effectiveness of these trainings, the people trained on the spot hope that we will come in China for the 5th time in another city.

With the patronage and involvement of the Airbus Foundation and in particular Laurie Ceccan and Ralph Setz.

As a reminder, training modules in emergency medicine are carried out in pairs by the two foundations. They enable local doctors and poorly trained medical staff to familiarize themselves with French techniques in emergency and disaster medicine and in particular with the use of rescue helicopters.

Participants have the opportunity to train in real rescue conditions using a helicopter, combining theory and practice.

Such training programs have already been implemented in Brazil, Mexico and China.

Many thanks to our trainers on site: Jean-Claude Deslandes, Jean-Pierre Auffray, Jean-Cyrille Pitteloud and Ralph Setz.
